The sketch below is of the Breakfast Creek Hotel in Newstead in Brisbane known for it's steak. You have to love your steak for the A$40 price tag.
This hotel also gets a mention in Midnight Oil's Dreamworld along with Cloudland. The Breakfast Creek Hotel still stands but Brisbane lost a lot of what would now be considered heritage buildings during the 1970s and 1980s - Cloudland was one of them. Midnight Oil was a 1980s/90s rock band that was active in aiding environmental and indigenous causes.
The sign above the Breakfast Creek Hotel proudly displays XXXX - 'The Popular Beer'. It's brewed here in Brisbane. I think we went to the brewery 3-4 times for our chemical engineering practicals during university.
There is rivalry with the other Australian states - all in good fun. The jokes at the time used to say - why do Queenslanders name their beer XXXX? - because they can't spell it.
Have a Happy New Year!
