Luna Park - Just for Fun
After all the amazing weather we have been having lately it was a shock to the system to be freezing cold (speaking like a Sydneysider) and wet this evening.... Just when a few of us decided to meet at Luna Park for an hour or so of sketching. Thankfully we were able to kinda shelter in the ferry wharf and have some light as well.
Night sketching is not something that I do regularly so a nice challenge....and the paper in my Canson Universal Art book is holding up very well considering it is only 96gsm. But my hands were going numb while I was doing this...feeling me with admiration of those who go out sketching in truly cold winter weather.
It was very nice to meet Nono – it is a real privilege to have a member from the amazing Malaga Urban Sketchers group with us for a year! Welcome Nono!
I was very impressed that the others all stuck with it as well, Meegan, David, Chris.
Thanks all for a crazy hour of sketching!!! Please excuse the terrible photos... my hands very shaking!

Newtown Post Office
Here is a sketch that I did in 20 minutes (before meeting up with friends for lunch)
It was a very rushed sketch but a lot of fun and I did it from the comfort of a plastic crate that was sitting on the side street.
I did another version later at home- which you can read about here

Brisbane Qld Australia
Today, I went to the Prado Exhibition at the Qld Art Gallery. It was awesome!! Before going in, I sat down by the Boardwalk, along the waterfront, and sketched the Brisbane City Library, across the river.

Taiko drumming in Sydney
I'm a student of taiko drumming and through the musical group TaikOz they have a group of advanced students who take their playing to the next level, which includes performing publicly. Last year they won a very prestigious taiko competition in Japan and have been invited back to perform in a "past winners" concert. So a few weeks before they left they played at St Stephens Hall, Newtown as a rehearsal.
I have only posted a handful of drawings from the night, mostly showing all the different types of taiko (drums) and styles of playing. If you would like to see more please visit my blog or flickr site. Cheers!

Drawing Architecture
Over the last couple of months I have been spending time developing my architectural drawing skills. It's not something I am completely comfortable with drawing compared to figures. So there was a lot to learn and plenty more to develop and carry out. If anyone is interested in reading about my study please visit my blog. Cheers!
